SS7 (TUP, node stacks) - 9

Telephone User Part (TUP) [Under SS7]

TUP is used for circuit connection setup and tear down. Initially SS7 used TUP instead of ISUP, later however TUP was found to be limited in comparison to ISDN in terms of capabilities (flexibilities). And so ISUP was added to SS7 an alternative to TUP. TUP has been defined in Q.721 thru Q.725. It was mainly used in European countries. It is also being used in China. TUP has been replaced by ISUP in most of the world. TUP is not dealt here.
