With the introduction of shared downlink channels (HS-DSCH), both signaling and data bearers can be mapped to HS-DSCH, leaving only (uplink) power control for DPCH. To better the utilisation (of downlink channelisation codes), a shared physical channel, F-DPCH (Fractional Dedicated Physical CHannel) was introduced in Rel 6. F-DPCH is used for both HSDPA and HSUPA.
